Pets of all shapes and sizes are invited to our third annual Blessing of the Animals, to honor the life of St Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals. And this year, for the first time, animals will be available for adoption from numerous rescue groups in attendance (puppies, rabbits, cats, kittens & a wide variety of dogs).
The Revd Martin Johnson, All Souls’ rector, has dreamed of holding an animal blessing since the church was founded more than five years ago: “We believe, like St. Francis, that animals minister to us is a special way. Francis had a high regard for animals because he believed they are a blessing from God which merits our gratitude and praise.”
The Blessing of the Animals is a community outreach to raise awareness about how animals’ lives are a special part of ours. “There is a co-dependency between us and animals,” says Fr Martin, “that is at the heart of Creation. “Not only do they assist us, but they reflect the unconditional love of our Creator.”
Children can enjoy activities planned to entertain and educate them about pets at the event on Sunday, October 2nd from 2–4pm.
Among the festivities will be a craft and bake sale with profits going to the Kenya Children’s Fund.
Blessed pets will receive an organic treat bag to take home. Water, parking and restrooms are available on site.
